Paen, a Dark One who leads a nice life with his three Moravian brothers and their parents in Scotland. Sam is a mutt, half human half sun-elf, who got kicked out of the academy of diviners and now opens her own private detective agency with her cousin Clare, a fairy in denial.
Paen gets a visit by an alaster a demon type who calls in a debt of his father and gives him 5 days to find a certain statue or his mother will loose her soul. Paen and his brother Finn then employ Sam as a private investigator and things spiral out of control quickly.
Paen and Sam both lead nice lives, he uses his time to research the origins of the Moravian Dark Ones and she uses her skills of finding things to build up her own agency. Paen doesn't want a Beloved, thinking he is happy without a woman at his side and without being saved. Sam has this little issue with uncontrolled astral projections when she gets aroused and their relationship starts off as a simple sexual relationship. Things do not stay simple because of a situation with a demon trying to kill them, repeatedly, and his mother's soul to be saved and stuff.
