Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite by Natalie C. Parker, Zoraida Córdova

5.0

Short story about 2 queer vampire girls.

The story is quite a bit different set up wise compared to the show. In some ways, I wish they’d kept the story this way: with Juliette initially intending to kill Calliope as well. The show paints her as a sweet little lamb that never intended to bite Calliope.

Here, they both had goals that got sidetracked by their attraction to each other. There’s a set up at the end for them to potentially finish what they started and I think this set up makes the hunters look less like one note monster killers. The show sort of bungled that aspect. Also, the tattoos, the stake having Juliette’s initials carved in it, Calliope having friends - these were all things I wish they’d kept. However, for a production made with $5 and a prayer, they did pretty good.
