This was the most frustrating storytelling method I've ever read. There are no character arcs, no progress, and no answers. Some people are into that type of story, but it's not for me.
This book was basically just a town full of people who don't know how to fix their own problems and forcing one person to do it all for them. It's also an entire town of people who don't know how to communicate, a narrator who doesn't know why he's in this town or what he's scheduled to do and refusing to work and find out. I was getting so irritated reading this, I had to stop and do other things.
Also, why were there so many pages dedicated to a character talking about how he's impotent but still wants to have sex with his wife one last time, and that he can probably get it up with her because he can still get it up to masturbate, even though her coochie might stink and that sex with her used to be boring. I wanted to GAGGGGGGGGG while reading this, why would Kazuo Ishiguro force us to read this!!!!!
