Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I've Loved
by Kate Bowler
Given the title (which is what sold me I literally didn’t know anything else about it), I think I expected something snarkier. Certainly wasn’t ready for what it actually was, a memoir from a cancer survivor who also is a historian of the “prosperity gospel.” That last bit provides interesting extra context to the author’s journey, one that is emotionally gut punching to be sure. But it provides the context, not so much the content. It’s well written, and if you have the emotional capacity, I’d say it’s a good, short read.
