Reluctant Immortals by Gwendolyn Kiste
2.0
emotional fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

It's a fine book, but felt very white feminism-y. The critiques of patriarchy seemed very surface-level while the female protagonists struggled to feel like fully fleshed-out characters beyond their trauma. The characters didn't feel like the gothic characters we knew and loved and the critiques of their stories didn't justify the characters' inclusion in the text. They might have well have been original characters. The setting felt cheesy and I struggled with the pacing of the plot. Overall a very meh experience.
