Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

5.0

No words can say how much I love this book, and how glad I am that I studied it.
Studying gave me contextual and historical clues to help me understand the story, but even without them, I would have fallen in love with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's style.
There are many things I want to mention in the review, starting with mentioning the number of subjects tackled in the book, from sisterhood to the influence of Britain in the newly independent countries. Not only do these subjects matter, but I systematically agree with how they are treated.
The characters are also an important part of the book, and they all have just the right amount of qualities and flaws. They all take bad decisions or do terrible things, and we are bitter, angered or shocked, but they face the consequences of their actions which sort of creates an equilibrium. We don't necessarily forgive them, but they have already been punished.
I cried at the end of the book, which is usually a good thing, and now that I took a step back, I can say that this is a book everyone should read at least once in their life.
