I loved this book because of the non-hiking elements; I found the emotions described and challenges Cheryl faced relatable. However, as Cheryl got progressively more irresponsibly unprepared and somehow more adored/lucky with her interactions with strangers I found myself just laughing at the story. I still liked it! I sure as heck won’t be using it as a guide for hiking the PCT, but I don’t think that was ever what this book was supposed to be. I think it’s really meant to give you a laugh and a bit of inspiration that when things are horrible they’ll maybe get better. So, 4 stars — 1 docked for the fear that this book convinced someone they could hike the PCT with zero time spent on prep after months of doing hard drugs.
