The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante
5.0

Incredible, but masochistic, reading experience—it was like sticking a screwdriver into my leg and twisting it around for a while to try to understand mindfulness

On par with the greatest psychological narrators I’ve ever read, line after line of utterly devastating honesty about love, sex, attachment, self-respect, codependency, the body, mania, depression, fear, self-negation, willful ignorance, etc etc sorry for the list. Like I mean up there with stuff like Notes From Underground or parts of The Sound and the Fury

Liked this way more than My Brilliant Friend, which I also did like quite a lot. I have nothing but high praise for this, I recommend it strongly
