I am so conflicted why this wasn't a 5-star read for me. It had everything to become one on paper - a new adult fantasy where the female lead is a ruthless spy, sent to destroy the rivaling kingdom from within, some of my favourite tropes, and well fleshed out characters.

There were so many moments where I stopped to mark a quote or a line from the book that I loved, yet I simply could not become engrossed with the story in the way I typically can.

I wanted to be excited by the plot, to be engulfed by it all, and... I wasn't. I was intrigued, I wanted to learn more, yet I simply was not being consumed by The Bridge Kingdom. Is this a flaw of the book? I don't think so. It's well written, even if the plot is predictable, the characters are not 2-dimensional bundles of stereotypes and I did care about their budding romance, even if their early-on hands on
