to enjoy this book, don't think of it as a retelling of Shakespeare's Macbeth. it barely borrows his characters.
i have complicated feelings about this book. i really enjoy Ava Reid's writing and i liked this story and this interpretation of Lady Macbeth but i wish there'd been more rage, more agency, more power, ironically. it feels like this version of Lady Macbeth has less agency somehow and although i enjoyed the added magical elements and didn't mind the love story, why fall into the typical trope of needing a prince to save her in the end? is her power not the point of this story? still, i enjoyed the witches and watching Roscille come into her power
