I AM NOT OKAY. MY HEART. I CANNOT DEAL WITH HOW THIS ENDED.
At the beginning of this book we see that The Will is being used as slave labour by Ianthe. In a common recurring theme of how violence comes back to wreck everyone in a never-ending cycle, Ianthe is using The Will because she wanted revenge for the fact that he killed her husband. The Will wants revenge on the former Robot Prince because he killed the woman The Will loved.
Hazel's family, Petrichor, our two robots, and Gus are all on Jetsam because the former Prince is selling his story to the reporters who have been following Hazel's family exploits. In return he wants new identities for himself, Petrichor, and his son. Ianthe arrives to screw all of this up.
I am not going into detail about the ending but the absolute worse part of all the deaths here is how senseless all of it is, and how the only one who tries to stop the cycle of violence - Marko - is the one who ultimately pays the price for his morals. I am desperately hoping he someone survives this.
