Gone Crazy in Alabama by Rita Williams-Garcia
4.0
This is the third book about Delphine, Vonetta and Fern, sisters growing up during the 1960's and the civil right movement. Each book has taken place during the summer, each in a different setting. Gone Crazy in Alabama finds the girls in Alabama (obviously) with their grandma and great-grandmother. Family feuds fueled by stubbornness and secrets suddenly don't matter much when tragedy hits and everyone remembers that family is the best blessing of all.
I really liked all three of these books and don't have a favorite. Even though the civil rights movement is present in the books it is not the prevalent storyline. The family dynamic is the main theme and the relationship between the sisters. I love the optimism in the books and the portrayal of the sister's relationship, not always perfect but always loving.
