This was a deeply intense but deeply needed view from a father to his son. It was tough at times but it really have perspective on how life and how society can shape a man. Especially a black man in America growing up with certain expectations. I don’t think my review can do this story justice. I rated it 4 stars if only because I can recognize Daniel Blacks father was a complex man, he was human but there were moments that were somewhat triggering to read so not the most enjoyable 5 star read.
Moderate: Alcoholism, Domestic abuse, Homophobia, Racism, Sexual assault, Suicide
