With the influx of hockey romances I have been reading as of lately, I thought this would have been at best a 3 star read but I was delightfully surprised with how this story turned out. When the plot line is brother’s-best-friend-who-also-was-your-first-crush, there is always the risk of an author painting their fmc as a quiet, star struck, virgin who was waited her whole life for the mmc to give her a chance, but Delilah and Ian are different. Yes, she has had a crush on him since she was 12 and when they finally got together, she made several references about how her “teenage self” wouldn’t believe the situation but Delilah did not wait around for Ian, we see glimpses of her making her own life, achieving her own success and even having serious relationships during the time her and Ian were not in each others life due to distance and life events. We get to see these characters rediscover themselves as friends and then as lovers. AND BEST OF ALL

NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP

dispute some miscommunications here and there at the beginning, I was afraid that the third act breakup would be a miscommunication situation but I was so happy and excited when I saw how great they communicated once they got together for real. Once they both confessed their feelings, they tackled jealousy, past partners and complications with maturity and great dialogue. During the 80% I was waiting for the third act breakup shoe to fall but thankfully it did not happened. I would not object seeing a sequel with Delilah’s brother and Ian’s sister……just saying
