The Calling by David Gaider

5.0

Oddly, I'm reading this book before the Stolen Throne, but I feel like it will be just fine. Often I find that having knowledge of events that happen after a certain storyline can help flesh out the lore in unexpected ways.

This is my first Dragon Age book, and as a huge fan of the games I think Gaider did a wonderful job of expanding the world of Thedas and giving context to the events that lead up to the first game. Duncan is so much more tenacious than you might imagine when you're first introduced to him in Dragon Age Origins, if which you only get a sliver of time with him. Learning more about him, and Fiona (who you don't meet in the games until Inquisition I think) was an interesting trip, one that I didn't expect would end with everyone kind of liking each other.

I can't wait to read the first book and piece together the lore and understand this fantastical world even more
