Dear Laura by Gemma Amor
4.0
3.5⭐ rounded up
"Because once a secret has grown old, and burrowed itself like a tick under the skin, it is harder to dig out than she could fathom."
Dear Laura is the second book I've read by Gemma Amor, and her stories are always intriguing. Dear Laura has a fairly grim plotline, and it focuses on themes like guilt, grief, sadness, loneliness, and mental health. This is not a light read.
I was interested in seeing how everything would turn out, but I feel like a lot of the book was just waiting for something to happen. I am a little frustrated by the vagueness of some things, but it's a novella, so that happens sometimes. I think I was expecting a bit more of a gory horror aspect based on the synopsis, but Dear Laura is more of a psychological horror story. This one is on the slow burn side, and the unsettling dread builds well.
