The first book in the Mass Effect series is a prequel to the game. It is written by the main writer of the video game series, and it shows: the world building and character writing is just as detailed and intriguing as with the video game counterpart. It is a thrilling, fast paced account of a crucial mission that is fundamental to the events in the game. Similarly to what Rogue One did for Star Wars, it fleshes out a story that was originally a short callback in the main series, and does this marvelously. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Mass Effect and view it as an essential part of the series now.
