Pride and Modern Prejudice
by A.J. Michaels
Oh, damn! It seems this Author has only produced this solitary book, because I would read an entire collection from them if they were all written like this one.
If I ever wanted a re-telling with a twist, and certainly a male/male edge, then yes, this would be it for me.
And how odd that for 19yrs olds to early 20-somethings, this feels much more mature and ADULTing than I've ever read for people entering college, mixed with ones who own businesses and are making mad money.
We even have a male/male Bennett & Bingley pairing I loved!
We had some situations mirrored in here that Lizzie & Darcy do in the original, but for Liam & Darcy, yeah a bit of a semi-twist but it worked.
We had a Mr. Collins and Charlotte, which turned out better than I expected and there was an early addition of Georgiana that was unexpected.
We still have the lovely proud Darcy who can't help but look down his nose at these college "freeloaders" and Liam's out-and-out refusal to bow to Darcy's snobbish ways.
It's apparent that Jaimie, Liam's older brother is out-and-proud gay, but Liam is still struggling as he's dated women in the past, he's simply not gung-ho about sex and sexuality.
He is one funny-ass mo'fo', though...I appreciated that the male version of Lizzie Bennett has a comical edge that I find lovable and relatable.
His mother isn't cray-cray [thank god!] and his father isn't suffering [he has a few comical jabs I loved!].
What I appreciated most was they kept the sweet, warmhearted, even-tempered sibling love between the oldest children of the Bennett clan - Jaimie & Liam...
... and yes, there were 5 sons - Jaimie, Liam, Mason, Ben & Nate.
We even had a dastardly George Wickham, who did nearly everything he did to everyone in the original, so I loved this aspect because it was going to be difficult to show how he corrupts the youngest Bennett, Nate.
This is why it's a 5-star read for me even though all we had was hand-holding and light kissing, this wasn't about M/M sex.
I loved this adaption and I want more books from this Author but...meh, it appears this is it and only.
