This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar
4.0
I really enjoyed this book. I listened to the audio version, then read the print version the next day. I'm a sucker for almost any time-travel novel, and I liked how this one approached it. The world-building is super-compact - there's no wasted effort. I'm also a fan of epistolary novels (told through letters), and this novel does it in an inventive way. If you don't like the book in the first 30 pages, you can abandon - it's a book that starts strong and stays strong. I loved the themes about nature and tech, and there's a ton of easter eggs - it reminded me in the "feel of nostalgia" like Ready Player One, although not about video games. It's possible that readers under 30 will miss a lot of these, but I don't think that would take away from their general enjoyment.
