The Secret
by May Archer
I want to read this entire series no matter what so even though I normally don't like enemies to lovers OR secret relationships, I made myself read this one. And yeah, it had all the sneaking and lying and miscommunication that I don't like. But Constantine was also vulnerable and needed Micah, and I'm definitely a sucker for hurt/comfort. I liked the age-gap, and even though I'm all about daddy books etc that lean into that part of age gap, I like that one was present here but didn't really play a huge role in the storyline. Like, both Micah and Con knew there was a 16 year age gap, and a couple of times they wondered if it would be an issue, but it wasn't a big thing. And sometimes I just want that because sometimes that just how life is.
There weren't really many O'Leary town antics in this one sadly, maybe because everything was secret or maybe because this one ran congruent with the other books so those antics couldn't be added after the fact. We did have drama with Con's mom and even though I didn't really love her in the last book, she redeemed herself at least by the end of this one. Being protective of your kids is great, but once they are adults, they need to be free to make their own mistakes and live their own lives, and I wanted to shake Constantine for letting his mom lead the show for so long.
Overall, it wasn't my favorite book in the series, but I did enjoy it.
