Short stories are tricky. They sometimes seem banal and sometimes they seem like a short sweet summer affair. Interpreter of Maladies was a little different.

Each story consumed me completely. I got so invested in each story, in the characters - that it felt tragic that the story would end in about 20 pages and I wouldn't know what would happen next in their lives.

Each story started off with mind-numbingly boring details - but these details built you an imagery. It helped you feed off the emotions of the characters and that's what I loved about her writing so much.

Before I read this, I thought it was weird that a collection of short stories won a Pulitzer. Now I don't think it's that surprising at all.
