The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

2.0

I finished this book and was like, "what did I just read?!" It focuses on a southern housewife who joins a book club with her friends for a bit of socializing & fun. She's got typical things on her mind, her children, her husband & his possible promotion, her mother in law with dementia who is living with them...and then, you know, also has to deal with her vampire neighbor.⁣

Two things I didn't love: the book spans a long distance of time and the way it was done felt off to me...it all came to a turning point and then backed down. I also felt like it was far more graphic than it needed to be and in ways that didn't add to the story but instead had me scratching my head. There was some racism & sexism - both felt accurate to me for the time & setting.⁣

It just wasn't my jam! If you like a vampire story & also have a thing for stories from the south, it might be yours!
