An absolutely brilliant melding of science fiction and fantasy by one of the very best stylists the genre has ever produced in its entire history. The first entry of Wolfe's Magnum Opus; a subversive, strange unsettling, hard-to-comprehend masterwork that I have no problem calling one of the best pieces of genre-fiction of the 20th century.
