Binding 13 is probably one of the hardest books I've ever had to read. Not just because of the subject matter covered, but for the pain and horrible thoughts running through poor Shannon's head. If someone has suffered, its Shannon. She is beaten, bullied, starved, and rejected at every turn. Yet, this girl manages to push through and see the good in others and people. She doesn't see the strength or good in herself, but is so kind to others. Yes she's fearful and entrusting, but she has every reason to be. I adore her character. Johnny, while the popular kid, has his own demons to fight. The pressure to be perfect put him in a horrible position. However, he is still such a great character. Though hes popular and got it all, he is still so kind, patient, and understanding to those not like him. He helps Shannon more than I think he even realizes. I do hope they are end game, but I'm not sure I can take the devastation I know is coming.
