The Downstairs Girl
by Stacey Lee
Synopsis: Jo Kuan works for a wealthy family’s spoiled daughter as a lady’s maid, but secretly anonymously for the local paper’s Dear Miss Sweetie advice column. Much to her surprise, her column brings in lots of readers, and lots of controversy, after she includes topics of race and gender in her writing. At the same time, Jo is tipped off about a possible lead about the identity of her parents, which Jo has never known. Jo has to decide whether she is ready to step into view to achieve her goal, or if she will stay with what is safe.

Thoughts: I loved loved loved this book! There was such a good theme of white feminism and activism throughout the book that carries a lot of weight, and I really loved the development and personalities that were combined. I wasn’t sure what I should be expecting for the ending of the book, but once I arrived I was very satisfied. Can’t wait to see how the TV series adaptation!
