Hamilton's Battalion: A Trio of Romances by Courtney Milan, Alyssa Cole, Rose Lerner

3.0

3 pretty entertaining novellas arranged around the premise of Eliza Hamilton collecting stories of those who served with her husband during the Revolutionary War. Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of novellas, the plots are usually rushed or the characters are underdeveloped. I have never read anything by Rose Lerner or Alyssa Cole before and I will read just about anything that Courtney Milan writes so I'm glad that I picked up this book. I also enjoyed that the protagonists were not your typical (or at least not my typical) romance characters.

Promised Land by Rose Lerner is a 2nd chance love story featuring Jewish protagonists (the heroine also is pretending to be a man so she can serve in the army). I'd give this one 3 stars.

The Pursuit of...by Courtney Milan was my favorite - definetly 4 stars. This is a road trip romance between John, a former slave, and Henry, a former British officer.

That Would be Enough by Alyssa Cole was a good story of 2 black women falling in love, but I think that it suffers the most from the abbreviated format. 3 stars.
