Immortal
by Sue Lynn Tan
medium-paced
I absolutely LOVED this book. I really enjoyed the world building and the way the magic worked for the immortals. I thought it was so interesting how the mortals and the immortals were connected, and I liked the characters. They held my attention and kept me engaged, always wanting to know more.
I also found myself surprised throughout, not easily guessing where things were going. I listened to the audio for this one and I think that may have helped me to immerse in the story, but even if I hadn’t listened to someone narrate, I think I would have loved this just as much. It just felt like a rich and beautiful world with unique politics and relationships. This was a slow burn romantasy that gave me everything I love in a love story. It builds on concepts of familial love and where we belong in the world as well as romantic love and it really resonated with me.
There were a few times where some words felt repetitively utilized (such as rankled) but it wasn’t enough to knock it down for me because I was so here for the vibe. I can fully admit that it’s entirely possible there are flaws here, but if they exist, I am personally blind to them- this book just hit so hard and I will definitely be reading it again.
