Evernight by Claudia Gray

4.0

The prologue of this book is action-filled, but it doesn’t give us an idea of whom our main character is; just a nightmare, a name, and a keyword.

Bianca doesn’t want to be at Evernight Academy. She even runs away to tell her parents her views on the matter. She seems to have strange visions or nightmares that seem like reality. While running, she has an unforgettable encounter with Lucas, a new student at this Academy. Lucas has some peculiarities about him; I wonder what type of paranormal he is. I think Bianca is human, but I can’t be sure. Bianca struggles with social situations, making friends, fitting in, and changes in her life. She is definitely having teenage struggles with this new school.

This book is filled with teenage angst. She seems to have a crush on Lucas, but I can’t get a read on him. One minute he is friendly; the next, he is a virtual stranger. On the night of the Autumn Ball, this book finally reveals paranormals, and I’m shocked by what is shown. I so didn’t think Bianca was anything but human. However, I still don’t know why she is so attracted to Lucas or why he seems different. Is he a vampire, too, or something more sinister?

The truth is revealed finally when some older vampires at the school put the pieces together. I’m surprised by what happens next with these star-crossed lovers. But the end of this book is a hint of hope.
