adventurous mysterious fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

I really enjoyed this book. I was not expecting to like a fantasy book that has so little romance in it (and I will note, even the romance that was in it didn’t really feel all that romantic to me as a die-hard romance reader).

This was one of my dislikes of the story: the two characters who do end up getting together (can I call it that?) have no real connection that we spend time discovering and building and then SUDDENLY really like each other enough to have (fade to black) sex? Not believable! Because there was no true buy in.

All this to say, it wasn’t enough for me on the romance front.
However, the story really kept me coming back. I’m obsessed with the diversity of all the characters, I think this is the most diverse book I’ve ever read. I hope that the story in the next book has more intimacy and vulnerability all around (not just in the romance aspect, but that would be a nice cherry on top)!

4/5 stars (and if I’m being really picky I might say 3.75)
