This was recommended in one of my smut groups, but there was very little, vanilla sex. So not a smutty story. A couple were friends as children who were split up when parent moved away.
Years later fmc moves back to town but she has some severe mental health problems due to her past. This leads her to being a drug addict as a way of coping. The mmc has been caring for his addict mother for years before the fmc comes back into his life.
There is tension at the start when they don't recognise each other but we, the reader, know who they are. The plot explores the multiple issues of the fmc and the people in her life that have caused her problems. Even though the results were extreme I felt it was handled very well,after all don't we want to hurt someone, who has hurt a loved one
