I started this one without a single glance at the synopsis. I knew it was Kepnes only other book aside from the You series, so I wanted in immediately. Again, I am blown away with her ability to infiltrate entirely a characters head space, despite how minor that role may be inside of the work. By far one of the most delightful writers I’ve read, even though she covers some quite dark themes. This one was a romance woven amongst a Lovecraft style centerpiece. The characters were often times wounded and tragic, with an underlying sweetness and devotion to each other. Carrig felt like he would have fit right in the You series as a person Joe encounters and despises. It’s hard to pinpoint how I felt about this one, but I enjoyed it.
