Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge
2.0

This book has a style very similar to the Ray Bradbury horror stories published in the 60's and 70's, with a pinch of Halloween, some supernatural phenomenon in place and a town cursed and unable to break the cycle of violence that occurs at each Halloween. The story takes place in the year 1963. Every teenager which has reached 16 years of age takes place in the hunt for the October Boy, who is a mysterious and horrible character that is out of horror movies.

However, the truth about the October Boy is much more sinister than they think and it will not be easy to get rid of the curse on the town.

The background story is interesting and it could probably make very good movie material, but in book form it just disappointed me. The premise of the book is not well-explained and we never find out why the situation came to what it is now. It is probably a good book to convey an atmosphere of evil, but falls short of providing a flawless story that we can follow breathlessly (a good example of stories where evil is portrayed very vividly is the Odd Thomas series from Dean R. Koontz).
