This is why I try to avoid reading ensemble series, because even if I'm not a huge fan of the first/beginning books, I still want to continue reading to find out what happens to the other characters. I was definitely more invested in the world building and other characters than I was in the main couple - too much insta love and silly, cheesy romance for me to care much about Galen and Simon but I still liked the story, and will definitely be continuing since I'd like to see what happens to the other characters
