This book was a breath of fresh air for me!
While the story doesn’t reshape the mold by any means, it was a well written, cozy fantasy story that I enjoyed from start to finish, and the characters were very well thought out!!!
I really enjoyed the FMC Bianca, who puts her duty before her heart. While she starts off as a rather serious character, you see a bunch of her insecurities about her chronic illness, about how she’s willing to give up her own happiness for the sake of duty, and the internal conflict she has with herself and the arranged marriage. Despite this, there are some humorous moments with her that make her appear more light-hearted, especially with the banter she has with Prince Aric. Not to mention, she is a badass who practices fencing. While the story doesn’t really put her in situations to show off her weapon skills till somewhere in the end, she has many moments of bravery and determination which made me love her so much!!!
Prince Aric was such a big highlight for me, an MMC who is a breath of fresh air from the dark-haired broody MMCs I’ve been seeing lately. He’s a long, blonde haired prince who has his own insecurities outside of Bianca which he also learns to overcome throughout the story. He’s snarky, but kind, and while he isn’t as much of a fighter compared to Bianca, he loves to read, is intelligent, and most importantly is compassionate towards the people he cares about. He’s such a fleshed out character in my opinion and for sure one of my favorite book MMCs!!! The chemistry and banter he has with Bianca was very fun!
The plot itself was entertaining even if it was predictable, cozy, and the magic and lore of the world was easy to digest and immerse yourself in. The LGBTQIA+ representation was also very nice to have!!!
