Desert Flower by Waris Dirie, Cathleen Miller

3.0

Waris Dirie has my utmost respect for everything she endured. Seriously. The parts of the book when she was still in Africa were nauseating, especially the part where she had her clitoridectomy, it's very graphic and descriptive (TRIGGER WARNING if anyone decides to read it), made me sick to my stomach. I have never read anything so disturbing. Unfortunately the rest of the book is so badly written. Apparently it was written in collaboration with a journalist and I don't know if that's it that ruined it. When she launched her modelling career it's dragging a lot to the point where I skim-read most of it. Waris Dirie is a tremendously inspiring and courageous woman, a role model to every girl but the book isn't the best. I don't wanna rate it lower because I can't give memoirs very low ratings.
