I'm a huge huge fan of Holmberg's writing. Something about the way she puts together words makes for a book that I'm sure to devour within hours, and this was no exception. I went into this book blind, and I was pleasantly surprised with the sci/fi, other-worldly, almost steampunk feel to the book. Being a huge engineering nerd, I totally ate up the machinery talk, and I felt that the pacing was great. I thought I had the plot all figured out, and I'm pleased to say that for a fantasy, this one did still surprise me in the end a bit. There was a lot of action in the end, which was great. Given the nature of the lost memory, then regained memory trope, there was a huge info dump at the end that I admit I had to slow my role and pay a lot more attention to the world building there in order to fully understand the plot. Having a big chunk of world building at the end of the book, after you've grown attached to the characters, was a super fun twist. I'm looking forward to more in this series!
