The Book of Fate by Parinoush Saniee was my pick for a book from Iran. I am glad to have read it, but it was a difficult book to read. It is very realistic and the characters feel very authentic. Our main character Massoumeh is a strong female character in a patriarchal society and where the men in the family hold most of the power. It is very tough to read, mostly because of Moassoumeh’s life and what happens to her and her family. It is very dark and the ending gutted me. If I would label the book it would be feel-bad. The language is easy to read but the pacing is slow so for me it was a challenging read.
