I received an ARC in a Goodreads giveaway. My job involves a lot of social media and digital marketing, so I was disconcerted by a dystopian novel involving the online lives we built for ourselves.
This story got me thinking and made me uncomfortable. My first inclination was to rate it 3 stars, but I upped it, because of the feelings it brought up will be with me for awhile.
Orla and Floss are unlikely friends, but both are ambitious and end up working together and becoming a core part of each others lives. Marlow is a young woman living in the future in a town similar to The Truman Show, but everyone in the town is in know that they are a show. This book is told from Orla and Marlow's perspective before and after "the spill."
I was uncomfortable about how relatable not only Orla's world was, but also how Marlow's dystopian world has hints of our present. This book will get you thinking about how we with with ourselves and the lives we build ourselves and what would happen if our lives become completely transparent.
