Heath by Nikki Ash, K Webster
5.0
Probably 4.5 stars or so? Not sure. Whatever. It was really good!! Lol. Wuthering Heights is what I often cite as my favorite book when forced to pick one. I really enjoyed the modern spin. Especially since I was really wondering how they'd do that. Some things just don't translate exactly but that's expected. In the time Wuthering Heights was written, totally okay to marry your first cousin. Now? Not as much. But I thought it was handled well and even still had that sympathy for the character of Heath. Having read the original book thrice (and coincidentally, quite soon before reading this) I knew the original events well and was able to appreciate the story even more because of it. Recognizing the parallels, nods to the original, spins on quotes on more. Which is why I highly recommend reading Wuthering Heights before this.
I liked how the portrayal of Catrina was just very...honest. You'll know what I mean. Also, I liked how Helen telling the story to the daughter, Emily (nice nod to Emily Brontè there) mirrored Ellen telling the story to the tenant so well. As well as many other mirrored events. I mean, I just adore Wuthering Heights and have since I first read it ten years ago (holy crap, has it been that long??..)
I've never read a retelling or modern spin on Wuthering Heights but I really enjoyed this one. Would definitely recommend it.
