I’m sorry, I HAVE to take off stars for the melodramatic, over-explanatory writing and completely unrealistic and over-written dialogue. It took away from what is actually a great story.

I liked: the surprising sister dynamic, the multiple romances, the VERY flawed FMC (sexual promiscuity, violence, alcoholism, etc.), the descriptions of the setting, and the side characters.
I also love a last-minute betrayal, and we got a couple here (Erabus you fucking bastard, and actually fuck you Ares!)

But this desperately needed an editor and a dialogue coach. I cringed at the proclamations of “love” and the formal way of speaking and the verbal over-explaining of everything they discover. I thought I’d get used to it after the 150 pages of world-building, but nope.

I think I’d be interested in book 2 but it doesn’t even have a pub date and fuck knows I’m not going to remember a SINGLE thing when the sequel comes out, so I don’t know if it’s worth my time.
