This book could have been really good, but things happened too quickly or too vaguely.

I liked the idea of this book – how there’s an alien invasion and another alien species is helping humans. After the first few chapters though, most of those scenes are in the background or talked about instead of shown.

Victoria is running from Kryptids that just attacked her, and Xian Warriors appear and save the day. Actually, Stran appears first (and I loved the idea of him, but he wasn’t shown enough) and then the Xian Warriors appear, and Doom knows instantly that Victoria is his mate.

I liked that first scene showing Doom and Victoria meeting, and Stran also being there, but I think that was the most detailed scene showing their relationship development. All the other scenes it’s them rescuing people. Then there is a massive gap where they have no way of communicating or interacting with each other for weeks or even months, and after that they’re in love. I just wanted more scenes showing them doing things together and interacting with the other characters.

The Xian Warriors were a mix of being knowledgeable about humans, but at the same time not knowing things, which seemed like it happened when it was convenient.

Even though this series could be interesting, this book didn’t have enough about Doom, Victoria and Stran, and the plot developed in the background, so I don’t think I’m going to continue with this series. I’ll still try other books by this author and hopefully they will have more of the things I’m looking for.
