What a wonderful book! The ordeals these characters go through and how much they learn and grow...

I don't usually read YA, but I'm always a sucker for dragon stories. This book is not only leagues above Eragon as a dragon rider tale, it is also more complex in terms of worldbuilding, more original when it comes to the magic system and more heartfelt with character arcs and moments. Based on how much the characters progressed and grew, I'm very excited to see where they go next. It's truly a five-star read for me.

If I have any criticism, it would be about the plot. The structure felt a bit too formulaic for my taste (though that's a plus for some people) and I was able to predict almost every plot twist, which is okay, just not my preference.

That all being said, the book never felt cringe or too juvenile to me, so I think some readers of adult epic fantasy would definitely enjoy this story too.
