Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

5.0

I need Cress and I need it yesterday.
This was such a strong follow on to Cinder, but it wasn't quite as good as it's predecessor. But it was still fantastic.
One of the things that I sincerely love about Marissa Meyer’s writing is that, even though she is writing YA fiction, she is not skimpy when it comes to big words. Like seriously, I know of no other other who uses the word "candelabra" as much as she does. It annoys me when I pick up a YA book and the writing style is simplistic and plain, as if the author thinks that young adults are too illiterate to understand more difficult vocabulary. Marissa Meyer is the exact opposite of this and her books are stunning, exciting, fast-paced and emotional.
I am constantly amazed at how well she distinguishes each individual character. This novel is told from different points of view, and even though it is written in 3rd person each character has a different voice. The characterisation is perfect, and you can't help but feel attached to every character (including the androids).
And now I definitely, desperately need the next book in this series.
