I actually preferred this to the previous novel, Shadow Puppets. The characters felt better defined and the pacing felt more natural. I also appreciated the moral dilemmas that the characters faced.

As for the geopolitics of it… it does require some suspens of disbelief. It all feels rushed. The changes Card proposes should happen over way more time, but then again it would be detrimental to some aspects of the story, especially concerning Bean.

I didn’t really like his treatment of Virlomi. It’s well explained and kinds of makes sense, but it feels a bit too easy.
and then she just gets dismissed at the end, it felt unfair to the character
.

Despite this, I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next book.
