Whispers and the Roars
by K. Webster
This book is a hard book to rate. Its very dark, and very heavy... but also educational and interesting? You have to go into this book completely blind... and also open minded. It's an easy book to read, but you will feel a little disoriented at times at the beginning.... but in a good way. I was so invested through out this whole story and couldn't stop thinking about it when I was done. When I wasn't reading it.... I was thinking about reading it.
I figured out the twist really early... at about 35%... I knew exactly what the author was doing... and that may have helped my reading experience because I caught on quick. I don't know how this book would be if I didn't get the twist until it was revealed. I think I would start to wonder what the point of the book was. BUT it is very worth it either way.... I think she chose a very interesting way of writing this and I loved all the characters.
I almost took one star away because this book was trying to be a romance but it shouldn't have been. This dealt with themes that were too dark, and unnerving, so whenever smut came around, it was more uncomfortable than anything else. It was a fine romance with a very heroic love interest, but the smut felt very displaced and sort of tone deaf in a weird way. This shouldn't have tried to be a romance.... let alone a smutty romance. Fade to black would have been perfectly fine for this book.
Just know before going into this... there are parts that aren't easy to read. Major trigger warning for graphic childhood sexual abuse and trauma.
