The Brightest Fell by Seanan McGuire

5.0

April O'Leary has always been an interesting character in the Toby!verse, I've never known quite what to make of her but it's a fascinating peek into other parts of this universe to see that Toby isn't the only one making deals with the Night Haunts.

Merged review:

I honestly thought that series was drawing to a natural close, all of the loose ends seemed to be tying up and what on earth could possibly come up in Toby's life. Family, what a bitch. Despite making herself a new family, it's her blood born family that will continue to haunt her.

When Amandine the Liar returns, she leaves taking Tybolt and Jazz with her in lieu of the task that she's set October - to find her sister August. It's a journey that brings Simon Torquill back into the fold and a novel where for the first time in a long time I've genuinely felt as though there were things at stake.

SpoilerI was on knife's edge at the end for the big punch in the face and thank god everything worked itself out, but also at the same time slightly disappointed that McGuire didn't go for it.

This series continues to rise of my list of favourites, and as always I'm tempted to reread it all over again just to be part of Toby's journey all over.
