A Tiny Upward Shove by Melissa Chadburn

4.0

Heartbreakingly bleak and tragic.

Content warnings: contains several instances of child abuse and neglect, rape (including child rape), drug addiction and forced use, domestic abuse, prostitution, dating violence, murder. The whole thing makes your skin crawl, and your insides twist a little further.

Every system failed the countless girls portrayed in this book—foster care, CPS, group homes, in both the US and Canada. Even that of family structures. The broken mothers. The nonexistent fathers.

Mercy isn’t enough.

This is a world that devours children, chews them up, and spits them back out, completely unrecognizable. Our world.
