I almost canβt believe Iβm saying this, but I literally canβt imagine my reading life without it. When I signed up for the ARC, I had no idea just how much this book would sweep me off my feet. This is one of those books where you fall in love with the characters so deeply, you want to jump into the story yourself. Iβm so grateful I had the chance to read it early, Because honestly I can't believe that if I hadn't signed up for the ARC, I might have completely missed out on this gem of a book. Seriously, that thought makes me shudder!
Zavier...He's not your typical brooding, angsty vampire. Yes, he's got that whole immortal, mysterious thing going on, but he's also ridiculously funny. I absolutely loved his sense of humor. He's sarcastic, witty, and he has a way of lightening the mood even in the tensest of situations. He's the kind of character that you instantly fall for, even when he's being a bit of a chaotic mess (which, let's be honest, is a lot of the time!). And the way he calls Celine "pretty girl"? Seriously, I'm swooning just thinking about it! Itβs the little things, you know?
And Celine? She is an absolute badass. I loved her so much! She's a detective, she's smart, she's determined, and she doesn't back down from a challenge, even when that challenge is a centuries-old vampire who's turned her world upside down. She's not afraid to stand up for herself, and she has a strength that's both admirable and incredibly inspiring. She stands tall and doesnβt take anything laying down.
The chemistry between Zavier and Celine is electric. You can really feel the pull between them, the undeniable connection that they can't ignore, even when they probably should. Watching them try to navigate their feelings while also dealing with a dangerous mystery was just so captivating.
And letβs talk about the ending! Iβm not going to spoil anything, but I will say: it left me desperate for the next book. There are so many unanswered questions, and I just need to know what happens next. The way Aura sets up the continuation of the story is brilliant, it leaves just enough dangling that youβre both satisfied and dying for more.
Aura Hayes has a way with words that just draws you into the story and makes you feel like you're right there with the characters. The descriptions are vivid, the dialogue is sharp, and the pacing is spot on. I found myself completely lost in this world, forgetting everything else around me.
Trust me, when this book drops, youβll want to be first in line.
