The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver
4.0

Lydia Bird’s plans for her fast-approaching wedding are shattered when her fiancé, Freddie, dies unexpectedly. During the day, she goes through the motions, struggling to grasp the reality of Freddie being gone, and at night she takes sleeping pills sleep soundly. In her dreams, Freddie is still alive, and her life with him continues as they planned. Lydia much prefers the world in which the love of her life is still within reach, but when her actual reality begins to conflict with that of her dreams, Lydia must make a decision about letting go of Freddie for good in order to move on with her life.

I loved One Day in December and pre-ordered this one right away. It took me a bit to get into—I struggled to see where it was going, but eventually it picked up. I loved Lydia and Freddie’s love for each other, so of course the book was heart-breaking at times. I also felt Lydia had some profound learning moments that made me pause and think toward the end, and that is something I always appreciate in a book. This one is relatable for anyone who has ever had love and lost it.
