Crex by A.G. Wilde, Scott Johnson
4.0

I ended up liking this book a little better than the first- Crex was just adorably protective and smitten with the whole bonding thing.

Ok, likes:

-Crex. Protective from the get-go, very dangerous- to his enemies, he felt more fleshed out than Xul and definitely a bit more... capable? dangerous? stronger? fiercer? I dunno, but it worked in a predatory/protective/alpha type of way.
-Piper. She was a bit more of a fighter than Athena was and definitely angrier. I liked how she just trusted her instincts and after Crex first helped protect her she just decided she wasn't scared of him anymore (which then leads to some sexy-funtime thoughts lol)
-the tropes were better in this book: forced proximity/kidnapped together/male has to protect his female etc etc. I enjoyed it more in this book.. esp when Crex realized he was bonding with her/ recognized her as his mate.
- the t-rex

the meh:
-the bonding. ok, so I love a good soulmate/fated mate, which is what the bonding is. but it doesn't really get fleshed out. it's recognition of a fated mate, but it's also an organ? and then Crex shares his healing blood and Piper starts to feel it to? maybe? that's never really directly explained.
-Piper's trauma. Similiar to the first book, Piper goes through a ton of trauma- kidnapped, sold, sister murdered... and yet it's all kinda .. glossed over. I guess because this is a romance book and, well, romance has to happen and I enjoy that part don't get me wrong! it's just a lot of suspended belief for the amount of trauma these women go through.

Great book, loved the fated mates/ bonding aspect to it, will definitely read the next one.
